[ NNSquad ] Re: Sandvine MSO Study shows device throttles P2P upload by 98%
An appropriate report for the day of turkeys, to be sure. Two lines I particularly liked... From the report itself: Once Sandvine Peer-To-Peer Policy Management was enabled, bandwidth utilization by P2P traffic fell to less than eight per cent (8%) [from 94%] without impacting subscriber peer to peer sessions. One might ask, how is this possible? Well, the report suggests that the vast bulk of P2P protocol activity is useless "chatter" and the like. An interesting assertion. The message quoting the study notes: Sandvine published a case study that recommended throttling P2P uploads by 98%!! Is this reasonable network management? As it happens, billionaire Mark Cuban would presumably think so. He's just blogged an item where he congratulates Comcast for a job well done when it comes to P2P management, and urges a total ban on all P2P traffic (or a healthy surcharge). Since my thoughts on Cuban's proposal are out of scope here, I've commented on them elsewhere (on my blog, and in a thread over on the NNSquad Forum).
