Your point concerning the inability to store bits is one I've attempted to drive home in various fora for going on three decades now. So, while I recognize the validity of your argument, one might think of bits not as electricity, but instead, if sized properly, a means of conserving electricity, given the megawatts of power now being consumed by many transmission systems whose traffic barely warrant a tenth of their rated capacity at certain times of the day. Here we depart from NN, granted, but a point I thought worthy of making in an age when virtually everything else is, well ... becoming virtual.

Just want to clarify a point. Transmission bits *can not* be stored
and re-used later. They must be consumed or lost and, unlike
electricity or water they are not homogeneous, you've got to deliver
the appropriate collection of bits (packets) to the appropriate
location.

This changes the underlying mathematics significantly - unfortunately
this hasn't stopped people thinking that data flow is like water.

In my opinion the underlying constraints are badly articulated
throughout the industry - and this, combined with market pressures to
raise return on investment, causes a lot of the inappropriate,
anti-neutral, behaviour.
