[ NNSquad ] FBI asks Congress for ability to monitor all Internet traffic

Greetings. During a Congressional hearing today, FBI Director Robert Mueller
appeared to ask Congress to legislate "choke point filters" that would
enable the FBI to proactively monitor *all* Internet traffic for
"illegal activity" ( http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9926899-7.html ).

The surveillance should include all Internet traffic, Mueller
said, "whether it be .mil, .gov, .com--whichever network you're
     talking about."

Wow, nothing like wishing big. Outside of the staggeringly
horrendous anti-privacy aspects of such a plan, the Internet
architecture implications would be similarly nothing short of
bizarre.

What a way to encourage the universal use of encryption ...
