[ NNSquad ] Re: Keith Dawson: uTorrent Responds Regarding UDP Usage

Can I see a show of hands from all who think that shifting half the Internet's traffic to UDP is no big deal?

Regardless of BitTorrent's intentions, this is likely to cause a great deal of heartache to the Internet infrastructure. The ISPs believe they won't be adversely affected, however, and have said nothing but good things about this move.

Maybe I'm just being all alarmist and there's nothing to see here; that would be fine with me. But given the history of P2P, the kind of people who use it, and the purposes for which it's used (and we all know it's not just for distributing Ubuntu,) I'm not real thrilled about the long-term consequences. If the TCP congestion avoidance algorithm doesn't work well - which is true - why not fix it instead of bypassing it?

The last thing the Internet needs is for this end-to-end thing to be taken too literally.

Just now in the process of publicizing uTorrent's response, which can be summed up as: "utter nonsense."
