[ NNSquad ] Re: Poll: Cost of Broadband Discourages Many

===================
Keeping in mind that some people _still_
won't use it because
  . they can't afford a computer
  . they're afraid of computers
  . the learning curve is too steep
====================

Agreed. But even as the old codgers who won't use it, the younger generation
is increasingly in environment where they must use it.

They aren't afraid. And the learning curve is right there with reading,
writing, and 'rithmetic.

The economics is still an issue of course, but less so. I remember paying
multiple thousands for a luggable and $2,000 for a 21 inch CRT that weighed
about 20 pounds.

Of course, looked at some ways it is not economical yet. But we don't
deliver mail only to those where it is economical. A part of the value of
the mail system is its ubiquity. The same is true of the internet, and of
"high speed".

So ... do we wait till everyone NEEDS the resources, and will use the
resources, or do we build it now like we built the Interstate Highway system
before we needed it. Do we build it in response to need? Or do we build it
to create opportunity.

Still our vision of high speed has a long way to go compared to say Canada,
Sweden, Finland, South Korea or Japan.
