[ NNSquad ] Use of proxies could become a sentencing enhancement

Since we've already seen this occur with encryption, this should not
be surprising, especially in an era when using DOS commands is written
up as suspicious activity ("using another operating system") in a
search warrant in a current case.

Expect to hear soon that anyone found using the highly suspicious ALT
key (or even worse, the obviously strange and evil META) will feel the
full weight of the justice system brought down on them without mercy.

The Feds are in the process of making use of a computer proxy
"evidence of 'sophistication'" when deciding on criminal penalties.

Yes, it's a very, very, slippery slope.

US mulls stiffer sentences for common Net proxies

SAN FRANCISCO - "Proxy" servers are an everyday part of Internet surfing.
But using one in a crime could soon lead to more time in the clink.

A key vote Wednesday on new federal sentencing guidelines would classify
the use of proxies as evidence of "sophistication," increasing sentences by
about 25 percent - which could mean years or even decades longer behind
bars, depending on the crime. It's akin to judges handing down stiffer
sentences when a gun is used in a robbery.
