ZDNET asks, did ISP lobby force Net Neutrality out of FCC Broadband Report?

By the way, I've started pulling preliminary data out of the ongoing
GCTIP Broadband Survey ( http://www.gctip.org/broadband-survey ), and
some of the results are absolutely fascinating -- and in some cases
unexpected. I won't report in detail here now but there's a tidbit
I'll use as a tease. At the end of the survey form I included
an open-ended "Questions and Comments" box. I didn't expect it
to get much use.

I was wrong. A very large percentage of respondents, at various levels
expertise, have been using that box to describe, sometimes in great
detail, how they feel about their ISPs, service availability, and
costs in their areas. It's been a real eye opener. Judging
from the comments especially, combined with people's answers to
the more formal questions on the survey, it has become immediately
apparent that -- contrary to what many observers might think
initially -- the *speed* of a user's Internet connection is *not*
necessarily the primary component in their level of satisfaction,
even when adjusted for varying price levels. More on this later
as I continue to analyze the results.
