Google Groups data to be destroyed? Say What?

http://bit.ly/aCVDXQ (Google Buzz)

According to this Google announcement: http://bit.ly/9IzWlX -- Google
intends to terminate all access to Google Groups "Pages and Files"
data in Feb 2011, after terminating editing of existing P/F data or
creation of new P/F data next month.

I agree with the analysis at http://bit.ly/cDBpcj (artima) that the
Feb 2011 cutoff is extremely problematic, without automatic migration
of existing materials to some other Google platform.

The current plans, as announced, virtually guarantee the loss of
important data, since it is inconceivable that everyone with such data
using the existing platform will receive notification or understand
fully how to migrate their data.

I'm extremely puzzled as to why this has been left as an "exercise for
users" with the apparent default being total loss of data (whether
actually destroyed or "simply" inaccessible, the effect would likely
be the same for most users)."
