[ NNSquad ] Re: Time Warner Cable alleges that Netflix discriminates against its customers

This shows precisely why the free market is working. Content providers can
leverage their premium content against edge-providers being stingy about
peering. The carriers have a case that their infrastructure costs a lot
more money than the content providers
(http://www.digitalsociety.org/2010/12/division-of-labor-between-broadband-a
nd-cdn/), but the content providers can argue that their content licensing
costs a lot too. At the end of the day, they can work out some sort of
settlement. If Time Warner wants the 3D Netflix badly enough (personally I
hate 3D), they'll have to be a little generous on the peering side.

Time Warner Cable alleges that Netflix discriminates against its customers

"... this conflict between Netflix and ISPs has been going on for some
time, and it essentially comes down to peering arrangements. ISPs
want big content providers like Netflix and Google with its YouTube
service to pay for traffic, but Netflix and Co. point out that
consumers are already paying for their traffic."
