[ NNSquad ] Proxies vs. Ireland Music-Swapping Blocking

By the way, regarding the previous post about Ireland ISPs and attempts
to block music-swapping sites...

Regular readers will know that I have never condoned music piracy.

But I also won't sit by and let foolishness flow by without
appropriate comment. It's patently obvious that trying to block
music-swapping sites, given the ease with which they will continue to
be reachable via all manner of mirrors, proxies, and the like, is
merely a political expedient -- a way of avoiding lawsuits it appears,
in this case. Anyone who doesn't believe that the big boys in the
music-swapping game don't already know all this is deluding
themselves.

Such actions may satisfy the ISP and RIAA legal departments, but it
would be wrong to mistake these for serious negative impacts on the
ability of people to swap music, legally or not.
