If these ideas make any sense shouldn't Verizon be marketing them to
everyone rather than their captive FiOS audience?

This is so 1995 and Triple Play V1 when your house was to be an extension
from your set top box.

As the WP article notes the failure of their TV widgets. What I do know is
that their set top box software is buggy with a terrible and buggy UI.

All this begs the larger question -- can carriers survive as neutral
providers on a level playing field.
