Police want ability to remotely shut down smartphones

http://j.mp/xwZOrC (Washington Post)

"Now, police in the Washington area and elsewhere are expressing their
frustration in plain terms, publicly asking regulators and
wireless-network operators to allow stolen devices to be shut down
remotely through unique identification numbers within them."

Hmm. Reduce robberies, eh? Perhaps. Might there also be an interest
having a convenient way to kill phones in the event of civil unrest,
folks video recording police activity, and so on? Just sayin' ...
