A U.S. Blackout as Large as India's? 'Very Unlikely'

http://j.mp/Olsrkf (ABC)

"What people really want to know today is, can something like India
happen here? So if there is an outage or some problem in the
Northeast, can it actually spread all the way to California," John
Wellinghoff, the commission's chairman, told ABC News. "It's very,
very unlikely that ultimately would happen."

You can be sure that the cyberfear industry will try to use this
event, which of course had nothing whatever to do with terrorism, as
ammunition to slam through the cyberterror industry charity act. At
the end of this piece you can already see Richard Clarke spreading his
monumental FUD. The reality of course -- and he knows this full
well -- is that we are at much more risk from low tech attacks on our
decaying infrastructure -- in the case of the grid from simple
explosives damaging major high tension power lines that snake through
the middle of nowhere all over the country.
