'Free and open' Wi-Fi for public in Twin Cities expanding

http://j.mp/127z5iZ (Twin Cities)

"This week, the Philadelphia-based company detailed its nationwide plan
to modify or replace its home customers' wireless routers so that they
broadcast two Wi-Fi signals: the private Wi-Fi network accessed by the
homeowners, and a separate, public Xfinity-branded Wi-Fi signal
accessible to all -- neighbors and passersby."

Except after a couple of hours of use for non-subscribers -- *it's NOT
free*. As much as I support public Wi-Fi, I can't think of any reason
I'd want to support this essentially pay-based service on my own ISP
connections unless the ISP made it seriously worth my while --
especially given how much they charge for so little speed. And
despite the supposed safe harbor, this sounds like an invitation to
trouble from drive-by loonies. There's no obvious incentive here.
Let Tom Sawyer whitewash his own fence.
