Reactions to surveillance stories I am mystified why anyone would assume that NSA ***and their counterparts in other countries around the globe*** aren't monitoring international communications conduits. It's been known for many decades that they do this -- all the way back to the dawn of telegraphy, one way or another. That's what they do! Nobody is going to unilaterally withdraw. That's why for years I've argued for robust, opportunistic encryption. This isn't rocket science.
