Court Rules Website Immune From Suit For Defamatory Posting

"RipoffReport.com contained an admittedly defamatory posting, by one
of its users, about a person who operated a Florida corporation
providing addiction treatment services. Although the site was asked by
the poster herself to remove the post, it refused."

This is a particularly nasty situation. My sense is that this will
end badly. This is just the type of scenario that will trigger
understandable outrage and knee-jerk legislative reactions with
far-reaching consequences. The site in this case -- by operating in
the manner it is -- will ultimately be serving the interests of those
who want to massively restrict free speech.
